Welcome to Books in the Wild
Books in the Wild is an exciting online reading programme made especially for Waitakere City’s teenagers.
It is a free reading programme for year 9-10 students who attend high school in Waitakere City.
To participate in the programme you need to take a few moments to join up and select a username and password.
It’s really easy!
Once again, there are some awesome prizes up for grabs,
including a competition set to test your skills – Read the book? Now answer the Question!
Here’s how it works:
The three R's of Books in the wild:
Read a Books in the Wild Book
Register it online
Release it for someone else to read. Hand it to a friend
or leave it laying around in your school somewhere.
Loads of books will be released throughout Waitakere high schools at the beginning of August 2010.
Your challenge is to hunt them down, read them, register them on this website, answer the question,
then release the book back into the wild for someone else to read.
There will be some wicked prizes up for grabs.
Get yourself in the draw by registering a book (each book registration will give you an entry),
answering a question about one of the books (each question answered correctly per book will go into the draw),
and for the person who answers the most questions correctly, a fantastic prize (if there is a tie,
then those names will be put in a draw to find the winner).
There will be a ‘Participant Prize Draw’ in September, and the lucky winner will get their hands on their very own PSP.
To be in to win, all you need is to be registered on the Books in the Wild site at the time of the draw.
It’s that simple!
For the schools, things are changing this year - there are now two competition prize categories!
As we have done in previous years, the school with the highest percentage of participants will receive Whitcoulls vouchers for the library.
This year, we are also offering Whitcoulls vouchers to the school who has the biggest percentage increase of participants from the last year.
Every time you register a book, you’ll automatically receive a $5 virtual library voucher that you can spend on DVDs,
CDs or Games (PC/PlayStation/Xbox) at any Waitakere Library branch.
No, we won’t send the voucher out to you;
you’ve got to come into the libraries to claim it and use it – it’s a virtual voucher!
Books in the Wild is a local reading programme run by Waitakere Library and Information
Services that is similar to BookCrossing; the world’s biggest free book club! Anyone
can join the hundreds of thousands of BookCrossing members around the world. Go
to www.bookcrossing.com to check it out.
